When you begin treatment with Invisalign, it’s normal to wonder when you’ll be ready to show off your gorgeously improved grin. Although each person is different, here’s a closer look at how long you can expect it to take until you’re ready to showcase your spectacular new smile, and how you can ensure the entire process stays on schedule!

How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?

Although the exact length of time you’ll need to wear Invisalign aligners varies from person to person, most patients can expect theirs to take between 12 and 18 months. There are several factors that could influence your exact timeline, including how severe your crowding or misalignment is, your age, and how well you comply with treatment.

How Can I Make Invisalign Treatment Move Faster?

Although there are no guarantees that you can make your treatment conclude any sooner, there are many things you can do to help stay on track, including:

  • Be sure to wear your aligners at least 22 hours each day and only remove them for meals and to care for your teeth. Failure to meet the minimum time requirement could set your treatment back.
  • If your dentist prescribes bite exercises, be sure to do them as instructed. These help encourage your teeth to move into their new positions on schedule.
  • Maintain excellent oral hygiene. Brush every time you eat or drink anything but water and floss each time you eat. Furthermore, be sure to take your trays out when you’re eating or drinking anything but water. Neglecting your oral health could result in the need for fillings or other oral health treatment that could delay your results.
  • Don’t forget to keep your aligners clean and store them in their case or retainer soak when you’re not wearing them. While it is possible to replace a lost or damaged tray, having to do so could set your timeline for completion back.

Remember, while one of the best things about Invisalign treatment is that it’s usually faster than traditional braces, it won’t work if you don’t follow the guidelines from your dentist. Although each individual patient is different, doing so can greatly improve your chances of finishing early or on time!
