Comprehensive Dental Exam <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The exam portion of your appointment is crucial to providing\nyou with any diagnoses or treatment plans. It involves:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oral Cancer Screening<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In most cases, early signs of oral cancer can be spotted by\nyour dentist. They will take a thorough look at your mouth for any\nabnormalities that could indicate oral cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Periodontal Exam <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Occlusal Exam <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Your teeth will be evaluated for signs of unconscious\nclenching or grinding, also known as bruxism. They\u2019ll also be checked for\nproblems with the way your upper and lower jaw come together and issues with\nyour jaw joint (TMJ). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caries Exam <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Head and Neck Exam <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Your dentist will check your head, neck, TMJ, salivary\nglands, and lymph nodes in your neck area for any abnormalities that need\nfurther attention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

X-Rays <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Taking x-rays is the best way to catch oral health problems\nthat can\u2019t be seen by the naked eye, such as decay in between the teeth. It\u2019s\nalso perfect for determining whether root canal therapy is required, or to\ndetect bone loss that may indicate advanced gum disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Routine Dental Cleaning <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once your dentist has performed all the necessary exams and\ndiscussed a personalized treatment plan with you, the dental hygienist will\ntake over from there. They will use specialized tools to remove built up plaque\nand tartar from your teeth and along your gumline. While you can clean plaque from\nyour teeth at home, only a dental professional can remove it once it hardens\ninto tartar. After your cleaning, your hygienist can apply a topical varnish of\nfluoride to strengthen your teeth against cavities until your next visit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
